Announcement for the participation in Advanced Training Course

“The restoration of archeological wood with

particular regard to the wooden artifacts of the Egyptian civilization”

 

On the occasion of the international project for the restoration of Egyptian sarcophagi of the XXI Dynasty, belonging to the collection of the Musées Royaux d'Art et d'Histoire in Brussels, and in line with its objectives, the European Institute of Restoration proposes a practical course of advanced training entitled " Restoration of archaeological wood with particular reference to the wooden artifacts of Egyptian civilization", to be held from February 1st to November 15th ,2017 in Syracuse for the exhibition "The door of the priests. The sarcophagi of the Cache of Deir el Bahari. Exhibition and restoration in public. "

The course is exclusively intended for restorers and will provide the opportunity to learn and apply the methods and the materials needed for the restoration of archaeological wood with particular reference to the artifacts of Egyptian culture.

The course will give its members the opportunity to cooperate in important interventions in team carried out in public through the exhibition laboratory module "EUROPE expositive Laboratory Module", set up for the occasion in the exhibition.

Restorers can attend the course if in possession of following requirements:

1) Candidates of foreign nationality aged between 22 and 35 years old

2) In possession of degrees related to university courses or diplomas in the field of conservation and restoration of cultural heritage.

Candidates admitted to the course will be offered free of charge:

  1. course registration (free)
  2. materials and equipment of the course (free)
  3. personal insurance (free)
  4. accident prevention equipment and materials (free)
  5. house in common with the other participants for the duration of the course. (Free)

The course lasts nine months: it’s divided into 40 hours per week to be held in 5 days for 8 hours daily.

Candidates who are distinguished for profit and professional ethics during the course and will have successfully passed the final test, will be entitled to a prize of € 1000 * paid by bank transfer by the Director of the Institute.

 

Program of the course

The course takes place in the context of the exhibition "The door of the priests. The sarcophagi of the Cache of Deir el Bahari. Exhibition and restoration in public. "

The didactic program, that will be above all practical, provides theoretical and practical lessons on the methodologies and problems of the archaeological wood restoration, lectures on ancient and innovative methodologies of intervention, the degradation factors, the use of lasers for cleaning artifacts, construction techniques of wooden artefacts, methods of wood disinfestation, decorative and construction techniques with particular reference to Egyptian artifacts.

The classes will have mainly practical nature promoting the application by the student of what has been learned in theory.

The course is very challenging and requires perseverance, attention, commitment by the member requesting besides a special attention of professional ethics values ​​needed to work in team.

*Every candidate that will complete the course with positive profit and professional ethics, will receive € 1000 prize (one thousand euro) that will be paid only to those who will have completed the course in the expected time and have obtained a positive opinion by the teaching staff, to be more specific those who for whatever reason do not finish the course will not get that premium.
